I have been discussing a lot about how to use certain technology to enhance your experiences with learning, teaching, and business. The more I use technology the more my own businesses thrive. Anytime I have wanted to make a push in marketing for more clients in either training or DJ’ing, technology has helped me do so. Getting exposure is half the battle and now you can possess that exposure without leaving the comfort of your favorite couch at home.
Using Facebook alone connects you to so many people. Just posting pictures of what type of services you provide is extremely beneficial. Many times after completing an event and posting pictures someone else is trying to book for another event after seeing that picture. Blogging and podcasts are new to me but most of the time if people want to do business with you they want to know a little bit about you and those platforms are a great way to let your clients inside of your head. A few months ago I thought about starting a blog but being in the Masters program and researching more about blogging was a great step for me to make that thought a reality. My journey with technology is far from over and the number one rule is to never stay stagnant. I will always be trying new things, shifting and adjusting for the best results possible. ~Conquer All Limits Have you ever listened to a podcast? Have you thought about what they are for or how they could benefit you? I first encountered podcasting when a coworker said he was listening to podcast’s at work. He continued to tell me about all the different channels that were available. I often listened to many lectures on Youtube at work but never dove into the podcast world. When I found out there was even a podcast for “Swifty’s”(Yup, those are the ultimate Taylor Swift fans, look it up, it’s a real thing!) that really opened my eyes to the possibilities of the podcast universe. I recently read a paper on podcasts and it presented an introductory investigation on approaches to tailor and use audio podcasts as learning objects in learning management systems and learning object repositories. Podcasting is a great opportunity to extend and improve lectures beyond classrooms, especially for courses. This could be very beneficial for any auditory learners whom learn best through verbal lectures and discussions. If you are interested in learning more about podcast or how they could help you learn or get your own information out to people please research more! “Using Podcasts as Audio Learning Objects” –Zeynel Cebeci and Mehmet Tekdal ~Conquer All Limits Remember when you were young and you had to memorize important numbers (Home, Phone, Grandmas house, Best friends numbers, etc.) Now how many phone numbers do you know now? Since they are programed in our phones we don’t have to think about it anymore. Imagine completely not retaining information and using the Internet as an external hard drive. In 2020 this is what the world will most likely be like. We as a society will be “wired” differently. People will be able to search better than ever. Being able to find information and knowing information off the top of your head are two totally different things. I am not a huge fan of being “wired”. I love technology but I believe it should be used as a tool, not as your main form of knowledge. I personally still memorize numbers just in case anything happens where I can’t get in contact with anybody. On a small scale you see this happen on New Years Eve. Everyone tries to call at one time and often times you cannot get through because all circuits are busy. If anything catastrophic were to happen I believe that you will need the skills to survive without technology. We need to be able to conquer all limits no matter the circumstance. ~Conquer All Limits If you would like to read more please click the link below! Social Media
Many people have an opinion on social media. It’s fun, it’s time consuming, it’s helpful, it’s addicting, it’s easy, it’s hard, it’s the devil, the list goes on and on. But how many of you have actually read a study about social media and what students think about it? At the bottom of this blog is a link to a paper that explores the efficiency of social networking systems as instructional tools by presenting the results of a study that examined the perceptions of management students who completed courses at a U.S Mid Atlantic minority- serving university that used Facebook to augment instruction. Social Networking services are computer applications that support the complex arrangement of connected nodes with tools for storing and presenting information as well as communication, connecting, and interacting with others (Buzzetto-More, 2012) The top three networking sites in 2012 were Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter. Is social networking a good place to learn and engage on a professional level? Ummm...Sooo Why don't you have a Facebook? I think its safe to say social networking has changed the way we live our life’s. Nowadays if you don’t have a Facebook people tend to look at you funny and ask why you don’t have one? It’s as if you have some sort of rebel disease and refuse to conform to the new social norms. Social media has its benefits for learning and networking with people. I do believe that it is a great place to learn as long as you realize not everything you read is true! As long as you check sources on a scholarly level it’s a great way to progress your style of thinking and broaden your horizons. You can also follow sites that you know are great resources such as NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association). Being linked with valid trusted associations that you are interested in can be a valuable tool. The use of social media services in education has been shown to benefit education a number of ways by supporting social learning, constructivist teaching practices, authentic instruction, student centered learning, and on demand access to learning. Explore social media more and make sure you are making time to engage in real world activities. As long as you don’t lose sight on what’s important, social media in healthy doses is a great way to grow in many aspects! #Hashtagsfordays #dontbeonsocialmediaalldayremembertoengagewithpeopleoutsideaswell #Trynottopost100timesadaypeoplewillstartignoringyouorblockyou #makeyourwordsmatterconqueralllimits #ConquerAllLimits
